Does anyone know anything about this vaccine? I am taking Natalie in for a checkup next week and this is a shot they are recommending. Not sure if it is really needed for her right now.
I have been trying to research it some. I don't know alot about it yet but will let you know what I find out. If you find out anything please let me know!
I won't be letting my girls get it. It is basically for the virus that causes the genital warts that can lead to cervical cancer. They try to market it as some cervical cancer cure-all and it's NOT! Not to mention, the way we train our children to live will likely NOT expose them to HPV (the virus) so why would they need the vaccine? ;) Here's some info for you to consider - it's written with a non-vax slant so know that going in... http://www.vran.org/vaccines/hpv/hpv.htm
My main thing is that my girls will have pap smears once they reach the appropriate age/stage of life - and a pap will usually catch any abnormalities in cervical cells. My OB and I talked about it for a long time - he agreed w/my stance. :) So, it's a no-go for the Egg girls. Did you know some school districts in Texas are *requiring it* for admission?! Ack!
There is some controversy among Christian and religious groups due to the fact that it prevents a form of an SDT that can lead to cancer (thus, if girls aren't sexually active they won't get the virus). Last I checked, Focus on the Family didn't support any states or schools mandating it, but they didn't suggest Christians boycott it completely. Some Christians feel that by giving the vaccine to girls it gives the message that you are helping to make safe sex (before marriage) easier. I don't know how I feel about it personally. I don't have a daughter that age yet, and it is a new choice. It wouldn't be a necessary chioce IF all Christian teenagers abstained from sex, but that isn't always what they do, despite their upbringing, religious beliefs, and how we train them at home. At Natalie's age, you might not even have to explain what the shot is for in detail, so it might not give her any additional information that would make a difference in her choosing different sexual options later on due to the vaccine. I think it's just a personal choice.

we're leaning toward no more vaccines.
